How to Check Cell Phones Quality Using IMEI - *#06#

Most probably, mobile phone is the most used device by the people throughout the whole world. Couple of years ago the use of mobile phone was very limited. But today many users have more than one or two mobile phones.

And to meet the demand, manufacturers are producing their products in different places to reduce the cost. Sometimes mobile phones are produced in China, India or any other country where production cost is relatively low. And quality is also hampered for this reason.

So, in this post I am gonna show you, how do you check your mobile phone's quality using the IMEI number.

IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity. It is a 15-digit number and may be found in the packet of the mobile phone. It may also be found by removing the back cover and it may be placed on the battery sticker.

If you lose your IME number then you can find it by typing *#06# on your mobile screen. After pressing this code, you will see a 15-digit number immediately on the screen which is called IME number.

The number might be as below:
3 6 9 3 9 5 0 1 2 3 5 5 6 7 8

Now look at the 7th and 8th digit. These two digits will ensure your phone's quality!

  • If the seventh and eighth digits are 02 or 20 this indicates your cell phone is assembled in Emirates which is very poor quality. (NB: Some Indian sets have this number)
  • If the seventh and eighth digits are 08 or 80 this indicates your cell phone is manufactured in Germany which is fair quality.
  • If the seventh and eighth digits are 01 or 10 this indicates your cell phone is manufactured in Finland which is high quality.
  • If the seventh and eighth digits are 00 this indicates your cell phone is manufactured in Original Factory which ensures the best quality.
  • If the seventh and eighth digits are either 03/30 or 04/40, this indicates your phone is made in China but its quality is good. But not good either as 00, 01 or 10.
  • If the seventh and eighth digits are 05 or 50 this indicates your cell phone is manufactured either in Brazil or USA or Finland.
  • If the seventh and eighth digits are 06 or 60 this indicates your cell phone is manufactured either in Hong Kong, or China or Mexico.
  • If the seventh and eighth digits are 13 this indicates your cell phone is assembled in Azerbaijan which is too bad. And it is also dangerous for health!
Though the above information has been collected from very reliable sources, 1 or 2 of them may slightly vary. If so happen please contact us or leave a comment in the comment box.

  2. Most of the old cell phones' 7th and 8th digits are 00. That means they are from original factory.

  3. International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number is unique for every device and used to identify valid devices and therefore for stopping stolen phones from accessing the network. As per the specification provided by GSM Association the 7th and 8th digits of the IMEI number together represent the Final Assembly Code (FAC) which is used to indicate the manufacturing location of the mobile equipment. Thus having this code as 01 or 08 may represent different countries like Finland, Germany or others. But does it necessarily mean that the devices manufactured in a specific country are of good or poor quality? It's unrealistic to have IMEI standardization committee judge the quality of the devices and force the manufacturers to make it public. On the other hand isn't it quite absurd to have the manufacturers ciphering the poor quality of the device or even it's harmful effects on human so trivially? Moreover, there is no reliable reference to this procedure in any website that has been verified by the experts. So, my personal opinion is it is just a hoax :)

    1. Maybe you're right or maybe you not. But most of the old mobile sets IME's 7th and 8th digits are either 00 or 01. In that time only home countries used to manufacture phones. They had no branches. Doesn't it ensure that 7th and 8th digits represent something special?

      Thanks for your comment.
